For Fun Labs, the team behind the successful VR game "Eleven Table Tennis," has embarked on an exciting journey with their latest creation, "Bounce Shot." In a recent interview on the "Ruff Talk VR" podcast, Natasha, a member of the development team, revealed that "Bounce Shot" features an entirely new team, separate from the one behind "Eleven Table Tennis."
This strategy—bringing in a brand new team for an upcoming game while retaining the old team for their current game—is a move we've seen other studios adopt. For instance, Combat Waffle Studios has designated new teams for their upcoming games, distinct from those working on "Ghosts of Tabor." Such decisions allow studios to grow and foster new projects without compromising their ongoing games.
Natasha began by explaining that the team decided to create "Bounce Shot" as a distinct project to explore new possibilities and push boundaries beyond the realistic simulation that "Eleven Table Tennis" offers. This new beginning allowed the developers to think outside the box and introduce creative elements, while still preserving the essential fun of table tennis. However, the physics code from "Eleven Table Tennis" was repurposed for ball simulation in "Bounce Shot," ensuring precise ball movement, accurate cup reactions, and an immersive throwing experience.
Highlighting the social aspects of VR gaming, Natasha emphasized that this component has always been pivotal in attracting and retaining players. While "Eleven Table Tennis" primarily catered to the dedicated table tennis enthusiasts, "Bounce Shot" aims to create a more socially-driven and entertaining experience. Beyond beer pong, the game introduces features like basketball and arcade games, encouraging players to engage with friends and fellow gamers.
With an entirely new team and a refreshing approach, "Bounce Shot" offers a unique blend of fun, creativity, and social interaction in the VR gaming realm. Stay tuned as this game continues to innovate and redefine the boundaries of VR entertainment.
